If you’re comparing places to stay in Mae Phim or along the Rayong coast, most of what you’ll find at this price point is either set back from the beach or too small to offer much beyond a room. De Mer sits directly on the sand – pool, bar, and rooms all facing the Gulf – and starts from around 1,300 THB per night.
That combination is genuinely unusual for this stretch of coast.
Directly on the beach
De Mer is built on its own stretch of beach, separate from the main Mae Phim strip. The pool is a few steps back from the sand. The sea view bar is at the water’s edge. Most of the rooms look straight out to sea. There’s no road to cross, no shared beach access through another property – you walk out of your room and you’re on the beach.
For families or couples who want beach time without logistics, this matters more than it sounds.
The value is hard to match
At around 1,300 THB per night for a Deluxe room, De Mer sits well below what a comparable beachfront property would cost in Phuket, Koh Samui, or even busier parts of Pattaya. There are smaller guesthouses on the Mae Phim strip at similar prices, but none with a full pool, sea view bar, evening entertainment, and boat tours included in the same property.
It’s a full resort at a family resort price. The views don’t cost extra.
Rooms to suit different needs
De Mer has three room types. Deluxe rooms are the entry point – well-equipped and good value for couples or solo travellers. Sea Suites step up in space and outlook. Beachfront rooms are on the sand, with direct access to the beach from the room.

The evening buffet
Every evening from 6pm, De Mer runs a buffet that’s worth staying in for. Fresh seafood, crab, shellfish, Thai dishes, live music, and a Moo Kratha (Thai BBQ) option. It draws guests and non-guests alike, which gives it a better atmosphere than a hotel restaurant serving its own guests in near-silence.
If you’ve eaten at a beachside seafood buffet in Thailand you’ll know the format. The De Mer version is one of the better ones on this part of the coast.
Boat tours and the islands offshore
Three small islands – Koh Mun Nork, Koh Mun Klang, and Koh Mun Nai – sit a few kilometres offshore. De Mer organises boat trips out to them, with snorkelling gear included. Private charters and shared departures are both available.

Most resorts in this area don’t offer this as a direct service. It’s one of the things that makes De Mer a better base than a cheaper room in Klaeng town.
A quiet beach, a short drive from town
De Mer is on its own beach rather than the main Mae Phim strip, which means it’s quieter and more private than the busier section of the coastline. That’s the upside. The trade-off is that you’re a short drive from Klaeng town rather than walking distance – but it’s easy enough to get in by taxi or motorbike, and for most guests the seclusion is the point.
If your priority is beach time, a pool, and easy access to the water, the location works well. If you want to walk to shops and restaurants, factor in that you’ll need a ride.
